Heavy duty spray painting applications of high build two component polyurethane coating

MEDIUM DUTY AIRLESS SPRAY PAINTING

Airless Spraying is also known as high pressure or hydrodynamic spraying, i.e the spraying material is atomised by means of high pressure without the use of compressed air. Airless spraying is highly economical and has less pollution effects. A single spraying operation produces high coating thickness and high performance characteristics. The use of solvents is cut to a minimum, because highly viscous materials can be applied directly. There is hardly any overspray or spray mist with the envionment remaining clean. Our equipment stands for superb performance quality and meets all technical requirements Their advanced design and conception correspond to all applicable safety specifications and regulations. Sophisticated engineering, functional dependability, and easy handling are only few of the outstanding features of these equipments. All Tiger range equipments are in Stainless Steel 304 suitable for water-based paints and also available in high quality steel versions (Like 316, Food Grade) on customer request including high-pressure filter, hoses, hand spray guns and airless nozzles. The airless pump, Tiger 28.20 & 28.40 are the smallest models of its kind and particularly suitable for craftsmen as additional unit, or for minor industrial painting jobs. The Tiger 30.70 model qualifies for the machine building, electrical, furniture, steel and vehicle industries. The Tiger 40.110 model is suitable for highly viscous material. The Tiger 30.150 has been designed for high performance purposes and feeds large type nozzles or several spray guns at a time.

HEAVY DUTY AIRLESS SPRAYING EQUIPMENT

In order to ensure a long life tungsten carbide and self-adjusting packings have been used. The entire unit is mounted on a rigid cart on large wheels. The tube type construction of the cart is intended to embrace and pump and to protect it during transportation or lifting up by crane.
These units are available with options such as air-line regulator kits comprising oil and watered separator, pressure reducer, lubricator and gauge as well as safety valve, nozzle clean out device, suction hose with strainer high pressure filter, 10m high pressure hose, spray gun. Maximum working pressure input at 6 bar.
These units are wear resistant and ice free, having a reversing system with integrated rapid exhaust.Its high performance silencers ensure high degree relaibilityand adherance to applicable regulations.
The air powered airless model rhino has been designed to withstand toughest working conditions as can be found at shipyards, steel construction plants, freight car manufacturing plants, or bridge building sites.
Rhino pumps come in various versions: hydraulic pressures up to 450 bar corresponds to relative transfer volume up to 550 cc /cycle so that even with several spray guns and long material hoses considerably high spray pressures can be obtained.
Rhino pumps are in Stainless Steel 410 and also available in high quality steel versions (SS 304, SS 316, Food Grade, etc) on customer request. These pumps are also available as stationary units for wall mounting.

AIRLESS HOT SPRAYING
Ambient temperatures are sufficient for traditional airless cold spraying.
If, however, highest requirements are to be met with view to economy, working hours, film thickness, regularity and evenness of the coating, airless cold spraying will not suffice unless one implies its alternative: airless hot spraying. This method is particularly suited for materials that will not yield satisfactory results when being used cold. For example, a highly viscous synthetic resin varnish can be applied with the cold airless system at 180 bar with unsatisfactory results. After heating the material up to 80°C, it can be used at 40 bar yielding an even and regular coating.
In comparison with airless cold spraying, airless hot spraying means a cut in solvents. Even the most viscous materials spray without solvents at 40 bar pressure when sufficiently heated.
All airless hot spraying units are available with high pressure filter, material hoses, hand spray guns, and airless nozzles. All units are corrosion resistant.

Inline paint heater is the integral part of airless hot spraying unit. It is flameproof version as per IS 2148-1981 and weather proof protection IP55.as per IS 13947-1993

AIR ASSISTED (AIRLESS PLUS) SPRAY PAINTING

The Airless Plus system performs a two fold function: conventional compressed air spraying and airless spraying at a time. Spraying materials such as paint, lacquer, or stripping agents are applied by an airless spray gun being equipped with fine adjusting air nozzles to assist the spray jet on either side. Besides an improved spray pattern the airless plus system offers following advantages:
Superb surface quality and negligible orange peel effect.
Upto 20% material economy compared to ordinary airless systems, because optimum atomisation reached at low material pressure.
Using combined compressed air and airless spray results in an almost entire suppression of rebouncing spray mist. This system also permits positive spraying of grooves, recesses and sinkings.
No side runs when using highly viscous materials.
Our Airless Plus units are available in portable mobile and stationary version with large type high pressure filter, high pressure hose, Airless Plus gun and nozzle. All wetted components are made of stainless steel 304. For the Airless Plus system, we suggest the following types of airless pumps:
Hippo 4.90 : For low viscosities and average flow rates (stains and transparent lacquers). Airless Plus only.
Tiger 12.150 : For low and average viscosities at high flow rates (stains, transparent lacquers). This pump also qualifies for manual and automated installations using one or more spray gun: it is less suitable for pure airless spraying.
Tiger 28.40 : For low and average viscosities at low flow rates (stains, transparent lacquers, cellulose lacquers, primers, pigmented lacquers). Suitable for both airless and airless plus.

AIR (ASSISTED) SPRAY

The air spray gun uses air at 2 to 6 bar to atomize the paint into a fine spray. This produces a smooth finish, and can be used on many surfaces. Air spraying is versatile; the operator can vary their pressure, air volume, paint pressure, and spray pattern. With a transfer efficiency of 30 to 60%, air spraying produces a lot of over spray (the paint that missed the intended target) causing preparation and clean-up to take more time.
A High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray gun uses higher volume of air at only 0.6 bar. This reduces the over spray, increasing the transfer efficiency. An HVLP gun is portable and easy to clean, and has a lower risk of blowback to the worker. However, the atomization may not be good enough for fine finishes, and production rates when using HVLP may not be as high as with conventional spraying.
V R Coatings does not manufacture spray guns for these applications but provides suitable pumps and other accessories for this application.
Hippo 1.170 the diaphagram pump is suitable to feed two air spray gun without pulsation with accessories like low pressure filter, regulators etc.
Hippo and elephant range of pumps are used to feed air spray guns
Hippo 3.400, 2.900, 5.900 these pumps are suitable for localized booth side paint circulation and to multiple air spray guns with accessories. Elephant range of pumps are used to feed centralized paint circulation and to multiple (in big quantity) air spray guns with accessories.

TWO COMPONENT HOT AIRLESS SPRAYING EQUIPMENT

Two components high performance protective coatings are used in the fields where coating with extreme chemical resistance, mechanical influence and long term durable corrosion protection is required.


These protective coatings are solvent free and fast curing Coatings. They have good chemical, abrasive, penetration and high temperature resistance properties. They are also used for corrosion protection and has excellent adhesion to steel. The combination of hardness and flexibility in these protective coatings provides a solution for an entire pipeline network including the areas like buried pipeline, bell hole and line pipe rehabilitation, field joints, distribution units, valves & fittings and containers / tanks.

Specially because of its performance, outstanding life, anti corrosive properties, strong adhesion high film builds and fast application these high protective coatings are used for protecting storage tanks, oil and gas piping, water tanks, ships etc.These high protective coatings are used for protecting storage tanks, oil and gas piping, water tanks, ships etc.. Curing time of Two Component equipment is very fast ranging from few seconds to several minutes. Hot Airless Two Component Equipments are used to achieve high coating thickness.

Plural Component High Pressure Pump

This is the core part of Two Component System. It is like a standard Airless Spray Equipment except three hydraulic cylinders driven by single common Air Motor. The Air Motor designed by VR Coatings ensures balanced tilt free operation of three material pumps resulting in reduced wear & tear. Mixing ratio is decided by capacity of the 3 cylinders. By simply exchanging any one of the cylinders, new mixing ratio can be accomplished effectively and quickly. Output per cycle up to 500 cc, pressure ratio up to 75:1 and mixing ratio ranging from 1:1 to 10:1 is consummated by this pump. Infact this pump is designed and constructed to achieve most mixing ratios with related parameters as required. These pumps can be equipped with Ø300mm or Ø350mm Air motor.

Air Motor has pneumatic sensing and changeover with only two moving parts. It has compact and robust design and easy maintenance. Pneumatic Sensing & Direction Changeover with only two moving parts gives

Mixing Block / Manifold

Mixing Block is mainframe mounted. For the applications which have extremely short pot life it can be located directly where the coating is being applied. Both the components that are individually metered and delivered by Two Component Pump, are mixed in this Mixing Block incorporated with numbers of Non Return Valves. Return Line from the Mixing Block goes back to the tank in case of circulated system. VRC designed Mixing Block has following features:

  • It is Equipped with four NRV''s and four pneumatic valves. Very compact and robust.

  • Effective flushing of mixing block and mixed material by two separate solvent valves for base and activator. In case of diverse viscosities and single common solvent valve, solvent may channel by pushing through less viscosity component and keeping higher viscous component in mixing block as well as leaving coating of mixed fluid on the inner tube of hose. This is avoided by providing two individual solvent valves for base and activator

  • Solvent (of previous flush cycle) gets wiped out by spray material in first pass. (Useful for solvent less 2K PU material)

  • All valve seats & balls (including NRV) are in Tungsten Carbide.

  • Easy for maintenance.

  • Modular design of mixing block provides maintenance and cleaning frequency is very low and less downtimes.

  • Manually operated Ball Valves can be provided instead of pneumatic valves with all above design features if desired.

Mixers - Static / Dynamic

Mostly static mixers are used. These mixers consist of a series of left hand & right hand helical elements. When fluids are pumped through mixer they are progressively divided and recombined. The process is called inversion and results in a layering phenomenon. All contact parts are in Stainless Steel and are rigid, reliable and compatible with heated material. Diameter and length of the mixer depends upon material specifications.

Flush pump

This is the standard Airless High Pressure Pump with pressure ratio ranging from 40:1 to 60:1 and output per cycle from 70 to 110cc used in Two Component Systems to rinse the whole system. Selection of flush pump depends on material to be flushed and hose lengths.

Heating system

This may consist of inline fluid heaters, heated supply containers, heated hoses. VRC offers high-pressure inline fluid heaters to heat each individual component to the required temperature. Each heater is available with power 3 KW max, operating pressure 450 bar and temperature up to 100°C.These heaters are compact and rigid.

Oil heated Jacketed Containers are offered by VRC to preheat the component individually as per material specification. They are available in different capacities upto 200ltr.These container has power ranging upto 12KW and temperature range up to 100°C. This is controlled and monitored by PID based Control Panel.
VRC offers electrically heated hoses where material has to be sprayed at high temparature.In some cases insulated hose can be used instead of heated hose again depending on application, material specification and ambient temperature.

Feed pump and supply system

Feeding pumps are used to feed the component from supply tank to Two Component pump. VRC offers various feed pumps from its standard pump range depending on the material specifications.

Separate feed pumps can be used to transfer material from supplier''s drum to supply containers of Two Component System. Drumpress with Hoisting Unit can be used for transferring high viscous materials.

Agitators may also be used depending upon the application and type of the material. VRC offers electrical driven high torque agitator for viscous material. Pneumatic agitator is also available where torque requirement is less.

Monitoring and control system

The monitoring system is required to keep a check against off mixing ratio of the Two Component system. VRC offers pressure monitoring system; which helps in automatic shut down of the machine. This malfunction may be because of internal / external leakages, material deficiency, damaged seal etc. Automatic ''switching off'' of the system prevents reworks caused due to off mixing ratio. Sophisticated additional controls can be provided as per customer requirements.

Spray guns

Trigger operated and insulated handle spray guns are used to apply coatings manually. For automatic spraying pneumatically operated automatic guns are used. High-pressure spray gun has working pressure up to 450 bars with carbide seat and needle. For semi solid spray higher seat bore size is recommended.

FOR MEDIUM TO HIGH VISCOSITY SOMEWHAT PASTY STICKY MATERIALS .

which do not flow well on their own(i.e.are not self-levelling). Such as thick grease, lubricants, adhesives, sealants, silicons, plastics, caulks and pastes and other similar materials.

The transfer pump is liable not to have sufficient suction power. This may happen particularly while using antinoise compounds, car sealers or the like. In such cases the transfer pump should be mounted on a drum press which is intended to press down the sticky material and to assist the pump during suction.

VR Coatings offer ready to use standard packages as well as custom built solutions which are designed for professional use.

Ready to use Standard packages includes:
PUMPS (Standard Tiger, Rhino Range )having self priming piston / shovel type suction and specially designed construction for handling highly viscous material with minimum pressure drop, mounted on Rugged Pneumatic Drumpress unit.

Drumpress units are in two versions
• For 20 ltrs.standard drum.
• For 200 ltrs. Standard drum with double post pneumatic ram.

Circulation Systems

CIRCULATION SYSTEMS

V R Coatings offers centralized and localized (booth side) paint circulation systems.

Range of Elephant pumps are mainly suitable for centralized circulation systems and Range of Hippo pumps are mainly used for localized paint circulation system.


Elephant are high delivery moderate pressure four valve pumps and suitable for shear sensitive metallic paints and viscous water base paints.



The main features of paint circulation systems (Centralized Elephant range pumps) supplied by V R Coatings are as below:
  • High delivery stainless steel pump with high performance motors for less fluctuation.

  • Pneumatically sensed motor, less wear & tear component.

  • Specially designed packing for working at low pressures.

  • Four ball pumps (in Elephant range). This reduces pulsation, paint sheer.

  • Polished pipelines without hose joints i.e. vibration free system.

  • Maintenance free piping with flange joints for perfect sealing. Pipes are connected face to face without step or a gap.

  • Flange joint gives no settling of paints in joints and pipes are connected face to face.

  • Easy and quick flushing at color change.

  • Piping is designed considering velocity requirements, suspension & sheering of the paints while flowing.

  • SS 304 inside polished tanks.

  • Pneumatically operated piston type lubrication free motors for stirrer.- less air consumption compared to Vane type motors.- Constant speed motor at different volumes of paint in tank. Vane motor rpm increases as load is reduced i.e. as paint level fall.- Different rpm kills metallic paint i.e. reduces gloss level of paint.

  • All pressure gauges with ss 304 diaphragm, very easy to clean when paint shade is changed.

  • Very effective piston pump for transfer, pump starts at 0.5 bar.

  • Technical and maintenance support available even after warranty periods.

  • Tube in Tube SS 304 easy to flush high efficiency heat exchanger if required.

  • High volume pulsation dampeners, cartridge type/bag type supply & return filters.

PIPE COATING SYSTEMS

VR Coatings offers Internal/External pipe-coating systems as listed below:

BARREL/DRUM PAINTING SYSTEM

BARREL PAINTING SYSTEM
VR Coatings offers painting systems with multiple colors for external and internal surfaces of barrels and drums. More than 10 nos. of 200 ltrs barrel painting systems (production rate more than 300 ltrs/hr) made by V R Coatings are delighting the barrel manufactures in INDIA.


EXTERNAL PAINTING OF 200 LTRS BARREL





Following are the main features of this system:
  • Painting is done by 13 numbers of Spray Guns which includes individual Spray Guns for the bung and two Spray Guns with Cut Nozzle for fine band.

  • 13 Nozzles gives fast application, almost 300 barrels/hr without over-spray.

  • In-built Paint Heaters at lower pressures enables the paint to form a spray. Drop in viscosity reduces over-spray, saves paint, results uniform coating and fast drying.

  • High volume output Pump offers Pulsation free uniform volume.

  • PLC control panel gives full proof performance with High flexibility for adjusting various paints.


For Barrel Painting with three colors i.e. top & bottom band, central band and top & bottom cover, the Automatic Painting process for 200 ltr. Barrel is as per below:

  • The Barrel enters the Spray Booth and starts rotating on the Spinner.
  • The Control Panel is triggered no sooner the Barrel enters the Spray Booth.
  • Independent Painting for three colors starts at intervals covering the entire container. After completion of painting , the barrel is ejected out towards the flash off zone on the conveyor when all the Spray Guns are OFF
